Spring = Recess

Spring has finally arrived and we are enjoying it by playing outside. Here's Jaxon running as fast as he can to be the first kid on the playground.

We've been playing bumper cars on the slide these days. Every class joined to play today. We line up, slide down sideways, and try to knock the other kids off. It's so much fun, as you can tell.

Don't try this at home, only 4th & 5th graders are allowed to play. Abdirahman looks like he's in a pickle there. Can Kegan hold back the rest of them?

Chue feels the pain of Salma sliding into his hips, and Clara is scrunched in the middle. Salma was getting revenge on Chue with that crazy hit.

Harrison is celebrating after scoring a goal on Jonathan. The boys play a lot of soccer during recess.

A penalty kick is happening, will he score or will it sail over the top? You can see there are plenty of boys who play each day.

Jaia is screaming with joy as she spins around and around in the tire swing.

Did Willy get too close to Grace? The answer is yes, but he's a crazy and loves running between the swings.
Abdirashid shows off his talent with the Hula Hoop, he's pretty fancy with that hoop. We've been enjoying the wonderful weather lately, and let's hope that spring is here to stay! And that Mr. Lundquist takes us out often.

The Works!

Carlos is starting to drill the holes for his catapult. We went to The Works! Our goal for the day was to build catapults.
Here are Taylor, Emilie, and Vianna starting working on our catapults. They had just gotten there bases to hook everything on to.
Here is Daynesha drilling holes in one of her pieces, we had to do all the drilling ourselves.
Team work is the thing here. Nora, Huda, and Destiny all worked together on drilling holes in their wood pieces.
Here is Abdirahman sawing some pieces to use for supports, we also had to saw our own pieces for the catapult.
Larry is helping Dave poke his tack in to the cup to use at the top of the wood lever piece.
Daynesha is using a hammer to pound in the tack, Jaia is drilling in more holes. The tape you see in the middle is used for holding on the cup along with the tack.
Vianna and Clara are both getting their cups ready to add to the rest of the catapult.
Here is some of our people putting the finishing touches on their catapult, working hard as well!
Fire away! We tested our catapults by trying to shoot marshmallows into an ice cream bucket.
Chue was trying to hit Clara with his marshmallow instead of aiming for the bucket. Good thing they were marshmallows.
Check out all those marshmallows in the air!

Chue is playing with the mechanical robot, trying to pick up blocks and tennis balls. We were able to play in their museum for the last hour of the day.
Harrison is playing in one of those crazy mirrors that make you look really tall. Too bad you can't see his image in the mirror.
Dave is playing on the marble race track. You could build and destroy to create new paths.
Huda is learning how to ride a bike. Not really, she already knows, but she is trying to see how fast she can move the peddles on her own.
Vianna has a bright future in the orchestra playing light harp, there were no strings yet it made music. There were invisible lasers that acted like strings when you strummed the harp.
We built a giant tower out of foam bricks, they had a room just for building walls and castles.
What goes up, must come down. We had a great time destroying in seconds what took us quite a long time to build. It was awesome to be able to play with all of these cool museum items and learn science as we went along.
