We went on our first field trip of the year, a journey down the river on the Minneapolis Queen river boat. We learned all about the locks and dams that are on the river. We also learned about the history of Mississippi river and how Minneapolis use to have a booming logging industry. We also learned about the early men who traveled up and down the river, and what types of supplies and boats they used. We worked in the journals that we made in class to take notes and sketch the landscape.After lunch, which we ate at Boom Island, we then went beneath the Stone Arch Bridge and dug for artifacts from the old sawmills that use to be located right on the river. You can see from the pictures that we found lots of interesting artifacts, and had a great time digging these items up. We had a great time on our first field trip of the year, and are looking forward to many more.
